Export Instagram Reel comments
Reels collect comments faster than any other format on Instagram, and the app makes them hard to read back. Paste a Reel link and download every comment — with replies, likes and timestamps — as CSV, Excel or JSON. Free up to 200 comments.
How to export comments from a Reel
- Copy the Reel link. While the Reel is playing, tap the paper-plane Share icon and choose Copy link. On a computer, open the Reel and copy the URL — it will contain
/reel/or/reels/. - Paste it above and press Get comments. You don’t need to own the Reel or follow the account; it just needs to be public.
- Download as CSV, Excel or JSON, or search and filter first and export only the comments you need.
Links copied from the Reels tab or from the account’s profile grid point to the same video, and both work. Tracking parameters on the end of the link are ignored.
Why Reel comments are worth exporting
Reels are shown to people who don’t follow you, so their comment sections tend to be larger, faster and more varied than a normal post’s. In the app you see a handful at a time, reordered by Instagram’s ranking, with reply threads collapsed. That is fine for scrolling and poor for anything else. A spreadsheet of the comments lets you:
- Read every comment in order — sort by
posted_at_utcto see how the conversation developed after the Reel started travelling. - Find the questions people asked (“what song is this?”, “where is this?”, “link?”) so you can answer them or plan the next video. The questions filter does this in one click.
- Spot the comments that resonated by sorting on
likes. - Collect “comment a keyword” responses. If your Reel said “comment GUIDE and I’ll send it”, search for that word and export the list of usernames who asked.
- Keep a record of a viral Reel’s response before comments get buried, deleted or filtered.
Comment-keyword Reels: get the list of everyone who asked
A common Reel format asks viewers to comment a specific word to receive something — a guide, a discount code, a link. Working through those in the app is slow. With IGComments:
- Fetch the Reel’s comments.
- Search for the keyword (search is case-insensitive, so guide, Guide and GUIDE all match).
- Turn on one comment per person so each username appears once.
- Export. You now have a clean list of handles to work through, with the time each person asked.
We don’t send messages or reply on your behalf — IGComments never logs in to Instagram — but the list makes doing it yourself much faster, and lets you tick people off as you go.
Replies, likes and mentions on Reels
Reel comment sections are heavy on replies: people answering each other, and creators answering questions. Every reply is included and marked with is_reply, reply_to_username and reply_to_comment_id, so a thread can be rebuilt in a spreadsheet. More on that in exporting comments with replies.
Tagging a friend is the other big Reel behaviour (“@sam this is us”). The mentions column pulls out every tagged account, and the free stats panel lists the most-mentioned accounts and top emoji across the whole Reel.
Big Reels: how long it takes and what it costs
A Reel with a few hundred comments is ready in seconds. A Reel that went properly viral, with tens of thousands of comments, takes a few minutes to collect. The results page has its own link, so you can close the tab and come back, or leave your email to be told when it’s done.
Up to 200 comments is free. Above that, the first 200 comments are shown free as a preview, and a one-time Export Pass unlocks the rest: $4.99 up to 10,000 comments, $9.99 up to 30,000, $14.99 up to 100,000. No subscription. See pricing.
One honest caveat: the count shown under a Reel includes comments that Instagram hides from everyone — spam-filtered, restricted, hidden-word and deleted comments — so an export is often somewhat smaller than that number. Here is why the count doesn’t match.
Frequently asked questions
Can I export comments from someone else’s Reel?
Yes, as long as the account is public. You don’t need to own the Reel, follow the account, or log in.
Does it work with Reels shared to both feed and Reels tab?
Yes. Whether the link contains /reel/, /reels/ or /p/, it points to the same content and the same comments.
Can I export comments from a Reel that is also a collab post?
Yes. Collab Reels have one shared comment section, and that is what gets exported.
Does it download the Reel video itself?
No. IGComments exports the comments only, not the video, audio or captions.
Can I export comments from a Story?
No. Story replies are private messages, not public comments. Only posts, Reels and carousels can be exported.
Why did my Reel export have fewer comments than Instagram shows?
Instagram’s number includes comments hidden from everyone, such as spam-filtered and deleted ones, which no tool can fetch. If the gap is unusually large, the results page tells you.
Can I export only the comments that contain a certain word?
Yes. Search for the word on the results page, optionally keep one comment per person, then export. The file contains only the matching comments.
