Search Instagram Comments
Instagram lets you scroll comments but not search them. Paste a post or Reel link and search every comment and reply by text or @username, narrow it down with filters, then export exactly what you found. Free up to 200 comments.
Why you can’t search comments in the Instagram app
Instagram’s search finds accounts, hashtags, audio and places — not words inside a comment thread. On a post with a few dozen comments you can scroll. On a post with two thousand, “load more comments” and collapsed reply threads make finding one specific comment slow and unreliable, and the browser’s find-in-page only searches what is already expanded on screen.
IGComments fetches the whole public thread first, replies included, so search runs over every comment at once instead of the handful currently loaded.
Two ways to search: text or @username
- Search by text. Type any word or phrase — a product name, a discount code, “restock”, “gracias”, an emoji. Matching comments appear instantly, with accents and emoji intact.
- Search by @username. Type a handle to see every comment that account left on the post, including replies buried inside other threads. Useful when someone says “I commented!” and you need to check, or when you want everything a particular customer asked.
Search also matches handles that were tagged inside comments, so searching for a friend’s or partner’s @handle surfaces the comments where people mentioned them.
Filters that narrow the results
Search gets you close; filters get you the exact list. Combine any of these:
- Top-level only or replies only — separate original comments from the conversation underneath them.
- Has @mentions — comments that tag at least one other account, for example giveaway entries that require tagging friends.
- Has hashtags — comments that include a #hashtag, handy for campaign tags.
- Questions — comments that ask something, so you can find the people still waiting for an answer.
- Date range — only comments posted between two dates, such as before a giveaway deadline.
- One comment per person — collapse repeat commenters to a single row each.
Then sort by oldest, newest or most liked. The result count updates as you go, which doubles as a quick answer to questions like “how many people asked about shipping?”
Common searches people run
| You want to find | Search or filter |
|---|---|
| A comment you remember but can’t find | Search a distinctive word from it, sort by oldest |
| Everything one person said | Search their @username |
| Price, size or shipping questions | Questions filter, then search “price”, “size” or “ship” |
| Giveaway entries that tagged friends before the deadline | Has @mentions + date range + one comment per person |
| Uses of your campaign hashtag | Has hashtags, then search the tag |
| The most popular reaction to a statement | Search the topic, sort by most liked |

Export only the comments you found
Search results aren’t just for reading. Whatever is on screen after your search and filters is exactly what gets exported — as CSV, Excel or JSON. Each row keeps the username, comment text, UTC timestamp, likes, whether it’s a reply and to whom, plus the @mentions and hashtags pulled out into their own columns.
That turns a one-off search into something you can share: a list of customer questions for your support team, every comment mentioning a competitor for a report, or the verified entries for a giveaway. Want the numbers behind the thread as well? The comment analyzer shows most active commenters, top words and comments per day for the same post.
Limits worth knowing
Search works on public posts and Reels only; private accounts can’t be read, and you never log in to Instagram. Comments that Instagram hides from everyone — spam-filtered, keyword-filtered, restricted or deleted — can’t be fetched, so they won’t turn up in a search either. Posts up to 200 comments are free to search and export. On larger posts you can search the first 200 comments right away; a one-time pass ($4.99 up to 10,000 comments) unlocks the rest. See pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Can you search comments on Instagram?
Not inside the Instagram app — its search covers accounts, hashtags and places, not comment text. IGComments fetches all public comments on a post so you can search them by word or @username.
How do I find a specific comment on an Instagram post?
Paste the post link into IGComments, then type a word you remember from the comment or the commenter’s @username. Sort by oldest or newest if you remember roughly when it was posted.
How do I see all comments by one user on a post?
Search their @username. Every comment and reply that account left on the post is listed, including replies nested inside other people’s threads.
Does search include replies?
Yes. Replies are fetched along with top-level comments and searched the same way. Use the replies-only or top-level-only filter to separate them.
Can I search comments on a Reel?
Yes. Reels, carousels and regular posts all work the same way, as long as they are public.
Can I download just the search results?
Yes. Export always uses your current search and filters, so the CSV, Excel or JSON file contains exactly the comments you found.
Why can’t I find a comment I know was posted?
It may have been deleted, hidden by the account owner’s filters, or caught by Instagram’s spam filter. Those comments are not public, so no tool can fetch or search them.
